Beijing, China — On October 29th NKN announced a commercial contract with Synology China following many weeks of collaboration.
Synology is a top vendor of consumer and business NAS devices (network area storage). After testing nConnect, a distributed service hosted on the NKN global network that creates an end-to-end secure tunnel for file sharing and more, a strategic partnership was formed.
nConnect will soon be available to users of the popular storage devices who want to access files and applications safely, securely and remotely.
NKN co-founder Bruce Li told The Daily Chain, “we hope to get nConnect in the Synology app store by the end of November. Synology is undergoing a major OS update from 6.2 to 7, which needs a lot of effort on both sides. But we are ready for both Synology DSM 6.2 and 7.0.”
The NAS manufacturer based in Taiwan has sold over six million devices and dominated the PCMag server/NAS Business Choice award since 2013.
“We have handed out the server/NAS Business Choice award every year since 2013 (with a break in 2015 for good behavior), and every single time, Synology has crushed the competition to capture the crown. PCMag readers who use Synology love its products in a way usually reserved for more evangelized companies, like Apple.”
Bruce Li commented “we are delighted to sign the contract with Synology, after several months of collaborative work on nConnect based NAS remote access. Offering a secure connection between mobile devices and home or enterprise NAS has been one of the biggest challenges of the industries.”
nConnect
nConnect is used for file sharing and running applications remotely. NKN distinguishes their product from VPN services and competing technologies with very high speed, extremely low latency, decentralized robustness and easy integration.
“nConnect will be a subscription based business model, where NAS users can buy monthly or annual subscriptions of nConnect. The fiat payment will be automatically converted into NKN mainnet tokens, and the data usage will trigger micro-payments from that NKN balance. Even with 1% conversion ratio for NAS users, we hope to see steadily growing fiat revenue and accelerated NKN token circulations that will benefit all stakeholders of the NKN ecosystem.”

The nConnect plug-in will be available for download in the Synology App Store, and communicates directly with NKN nMobile Pro running on iOS (available now), and coming soon to Android.
nMobile provides ultra secure and private messaging.
“nMobile Pro is a super set of nMobile, adding support for nConnect (remote tunnel to NAS) and nCDN (miner admin portal), as well as NKN News. Right now both features are only for the Chinese market, but we will expand in coming months. In the future, we could add a mainnet swap function into nMobile Pro as well,” explains Bruce.
The strategic partnership will continue to expand into “areas such as storage sharing, content delivery, smart home, and other value added services.”

For NKN, or New Kind of Network, this announcement marks yet another contract in a growing list.
In April, we reported on three other major partnerships for the agile startup with offices in Beijing and San Mateo. Commercial contracts with China Mobile (mobile service provider), NETNIC (enterprise cloud integrator), and iQIYI (video streaming service) with a few companies said to be in the pipeline.
Synology is a brand recognized by a huge number of consumers all across the US and Europe. Featuring in the app store will bring new users to what is already one of the largest peer-to-peer networks in the space, with over 33 thousand full nodes.
When asked if any other companies were looking into nConnect, Bruce revealed that “at least two more Top 5 vendors are actively engaging us.”
With its unique highly scalable consensus technology based on cellular automata (MOCA), the NKN network and blockchain should handle any additional traffic with ease. According to CTO Dr. Yilun Zhang in a 2019 interview here on TDC, NKN can scale to the extreme.
“Let me be explicit,” he said, “the current NKN node code, without any modification, will work with one billion full nodes without any problem.”
This growing list of commercial deals and strategic partnerships could eventually deliver NKN products and services to millions of people worldwide.
